Taking the lead How we fought the Beast from the East

-

BY RENFREWSHIRE COUNCIL LEADER IAIN NICOLSON

The impact of the unprecedented and severe weather conditions was felt right across Renfrewshire communities.

It has been an incredibly challenging time for the council and public services across the country.

Nurseries and schools were closed and many people were unable to reach work or even set foot outside due to the high volume of snow which made travel movements difficult.

It’s times like these that really brings out the best in people, all rallying round for our neighbours and ensuring those most vulnerable are looked after.

I want to pay tribute to frontline council staff for their incredible efforts, working day and night to keep main roads open and deliver essential services across the area.

The commitment of council staff meant community meals were delivered, care at home services continued and care homes ran as normal, supporting our elderly and vulnerable residents.

Calls were answered in our service centres and our building services teams addressed emergency heating calls.

Gritters and snow ploughs worked their way round key Renfrewshire routes, with colleagues from across the council playing their part in moving snow from roads and pavements.

Extraordinary efforts even ensured all funeral services could take place.

These were Herculean efforts which I thank them for and extend my thanks also to colleagues in our emergency services who continue to play a vital role in serving our communities.
