What puts renters off

-

The Glasgow and West of Scotland Forum of Housing Associations said more than 20 of its members went to great efforts to ensure vulnerable tenants had heat, food and liquids during the snowy weather. Our property this week is called Riverside and is described by the agents as “an impressive redeveloped modern home”.

It sits on an elevated position in Bridge of Weir’s Torr Road, with views over the Gryffe River Valley and beyond.

For the redevelopment, the front façade of the existing villa was retained and extended to the rear and forms a one-and-a half storey front elevation with a two-storey rear.

With five principal apartments formed over two levels, the home is in excellent decorative order, according to the agents. It has been finished with high-quality fitted kitchen furniture, appliances and modern sanitary ware within the three bathrooms.

The agents say the accommodation is designed to be flexible, with a master bedroom suite on the ground floor level and a flexible upstairs layout that currently comprises two large bedrooms that could be sub-divided – subject to local authority consent.

The specification includes gas central heating with additional solar panels, an alarm system and double glazing.

The accommodation comprises an entrance vestibule leading into a double-

height reception hallway with a deep cloaks cupboard.

The public rooms run across the front elevation of the property with a large lounge with both bay window and French doors overlooking the river.

The upper floor has a galleried hallway with entry to two large bedrooms.

The gardens have been landscaped and re-designed with a broad entrance into tarmac driveway and parking area to the front of the house. The driveway extends along the more easterly gable to a level parking and turning area along the back of the property with access to the kitchen via both steps and shallow flagstone ramp. Home furnishing retailer Terry’s Fabrics has conducted research into the biggest interior design pet peeves for renters – and they say it turns out they are pickier than you might think.

When looking just at the aesthetics and decoration of a property, an oldfashioned kitchen or bathroom would put off almost half of renters.

The top five interior pet peeves included brightly coloured walls and bright or patterned carpets.

When taking the whole property into consideration, renters said they would be put off by a dirty house the most, with bad smells and evidence of damp coming in second and third.
