Students hike their way to a charity windfall
Students pulled on their boots to hike up donations for a top charity.
Foreign learners studying English at West College Scotland took on a leg of he West Highland Way in aid of CHAS.
They walked almost 20km from Kingshouse to Kinlochleven to coin in £731.
An organiser said: “The students organised a sponsored walk over challenging terrain.
“They roped in pals and family to help raise hundreds of pounds.
“The weather was fine, but there was a lot of snow lying on the hills.
“We all managed to keep warm and the wildlife was friendly too.”
Momen Helmi was one of the students who took on the trek. He said: “It was a great experience for us. “We learnt how to work as a group, and listen to each other to achieve our goals.”
The English for Speakers of Other Languages classes also organised a special moneyspinning event for the cause.
They collected prizes from firms for a raffle and were supported by Tesco, ML Photography, Thistle Recycling, Wagamama and Snow Factor.
Learners also sold 100 handmade Valentine’s Day cards.
CHAS runs centres offering respite care to youngsters and their families across the country.
It is the only organisation in Scotland which specialises in looking after children with lifeshortening conditions.
The service is funded through the generosity of supporters, who help keep the services running by undertaking sponsored challenges.
