Buddies ‘deserved their win’
Dejected Dunfermline boss Allan Johnston insisted his side were their own worst enemy as they failed to make their chances count against the Buddies.
James Craigen squandered a gilt-edged opportunity for the visitors in the early stages of the second half, only for Saints to race up the park and open the scoring through Harry Davis’spot-kick moments later.
And ex-Buddies midfielder Johnston conceded that Saints were worthy winners.
He said:“It’s always disappointing when you get beaten. I thought we started quite brightly, but fair play to St Mirren, they came into the game and dominated the first half without creating too many clear-cut opportunities.
“We weathered the storm at the start of the second half then we had probably the best opportunity of the game, and that’s probably been the story of our season, not taking our chances.
“James Craigen had a great chance and he’s got to hit the target, got to score. When you get chances like that against good teams, you have to be clinical.“
