TROUT AND ABOUT
Pupils rear fish then set them free in the wild
I t ’s all going swimmingly at one Paisley school after a shoal of special fish was released into the wild.
Animal lovers at St Peter’s Primary School have been looking after almost 200 trout in the classroom.
Bidding the fish a fond farewell, the primary four pupils released the trout into nearby Glennifer Burn having prepared them for the wilds of the River Clyde.
Class teacher Grace Everett said: “Looking after and releasing the trout has been amazing, the children have just loved it. From day one they took to the project really well and they’ve all been really hands on. It’s been so worthwhile.”
Back in January, 200 trout eggs were delivered to the Glenburn school.
From monitoring water temperatures to feeding the fish and cleaning the tank, the scheme, from Clyde River Foundation, has given the children an insight into the world around them.
Last week the time came for the youngsters to say goodbye to their fishy friends. Louise Wilson, from the Clyde River Foundation, helped each pupil release two fish into the wild.
