TV licence price hike soon

Paisley households could save money by renewing their TV Licence on time by March 31.

The TV Licensing database of more than 30 million addresses shows that more than 300,000 households across the UK have licences that expire on Saturday, March 31, and can save £3.50 by renewing promptly before Sunday, April 1.

On April 1, the cost of a colour licence will rise by £3.50 to £150.50. The cost of a black and white licence will rise from £49.50 to £50.50.

Yvonne MacDermid, CEO at Money Advice Scotland, said: “Budgeting is ever more important to people across Scotland.

“The majority of people managing the household finances recognise that they require a TV Licence, and I’d encourage them to consider renewing now to save in time for the increase.”

Fergus Reid, spokespers­on for TV Licensing in Scotland, said: “We know people are always looking for ways to make their money go further, which is why we are remind.

“We offer a range of ways to spread the cost, including Direct Debit and weekly cash payments at one of 28,000 PayPoint outlets around the country.”
