VILE OAP EXPOSED HIMSELF TO WOMAN

- Andrew Glen Ron Moore

A dirty old man flashed at a woman while using his zimmer frame.

Chronic alcoholic Andrew Glen, 65, dropped his trousers in a Paisley street and made vile sex comments to the shocked woman, who reported his depraved actions to police.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard neighbour from hell Glen, who is in the process of being evicted from his house at Glentanar Court in the town’s Seedhill area, targeted his victim near his home after going on a drinking binge.

The pensioner, who walks with a frame, turned obscene when he targeted the woman – who cannot be named for legal reasons – on August 8 last year as she passed his home.

Glen hobbled into court for sentencing by Sheri f f David Pender after admitting responsibility for the sex offence at a previous hearing.

Sentencing had been deferred for the preparation of background reports, which the authorities had problems in obtaining because of difficulties in tracing Glen for his interviews.

Defence agent Chris McKenna urged the court to show leniency to his client who has been blighted by a long-standing addiction to

alcohol.

He said: “There is no doubt his behaviour was very much influenced by alcohol. He understands this is a very serious matter.

“He suffers from significant health problems most of which are related to alcohol including alcohol-related dementia.

“He is very fortunate in that he has now co- operated with the authorities although there has been an element of denial in respect of the charge.

“Clearly there is a problem that needs to be addressed and he would be willing work with the authorities in having this addressed including working with the integrated alcohol team.”

Glen was convicted of a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm in that he lowered his trousers and uttered comments which were of sexually offensive nature to the female complainer at Glentanar Court in Paisley.

Sheriff Pender tore a strip off the accused who remained seated in the dock as he was handed his punishment.

He said: “These were very serious matters. The comments expressed to the complainer were extraordinarily offensive.

“However, it would be appropriate to deal with this by way of a community payback order lasting 18 months supervision with added conditions that you will undergo alcohol counselling and any other agency’s requirements.

“Given the nature of your health difficulties you will not undergo unpaid work.”

Glen, who was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the length of his order, will appear for a review of his conduct in four months.
