Takeover’s a hit

- Alison Rennie

Paisley music fans helped make the first ever Scottish Alternative Music Awards Takeover event a hit – despite the challenging weather.

Organiser Richy Muirhead said the event was a great success with workshops, seminars and live performances all well attended.

The festival took place at the end of the Beast from the East storm which meant Friday’s events with Out Lines and Heir of the Cursed was cancelled.

But all of Saturday’s gigs went ahead and Richy said they hope to bring the festival back to the town.

He said: “Despite the challenges faced by the weather, the SAMAs Paisley Takeover was a great success.

“There was a real buzz around the Arts Centre with the workshops, seminars and live performances throughout the day. If I had to pick a highlight I think it would be seeing Emme Woods playing a set in a tiny studio space in the venue to an intimate audience.

“T h a t was pretty special. We are currently working towards re - s c h e d u l i n g Out Lines/ Heir of the Cursed to a later date, and we’re in talks to continue the festival into 2019.

“The SAMAs aim to be back in Paisley in the future.”

The SAMA Takeover Festival was funded by Renfrewshire’s Culture, Heritage and Events Fund, part of the legacy of Paisley’s bid to be UK City of Culture 2021, and ran in association with Paisley Arts Centre.
