Awards for communit

- Kathleen Speirs

Local heroes have been honoured for their efforts to help others at the Provost’s Community Awards.

Provost Lorraine Cameron was joined by comperè Gina McKie to help celebrate the achievements of devoted community members who give their all to make Renfrewshire a better place to live.

Awards were split across six categories and presented at a special ceremony at the Glynhill Hotel, in Renfrew.

The Paisley Opera Chorus kickstarted the glittering ceremony with a performance in both English and Italian for the invited guests.

Provost Cameron said: “I feel privileged to be able to present these awards to the fantastic community members who were chosen as the winners.

“The standard of nominations was unbelievably high and it is heartening to see how much good work is going on within our communities, often unrecognised.

“These people and groups have gone above and beyond the call of duty, without expecting anything in return.”

The recipients of this year’s awards are: ● Arts and Culture – Evelyn Laurie ● Carer’s Award – Ruairidh Clark ● Community Group – Renfrewshire Foodbank ● Community Volunteer– Margaret Mullen ● Employer of the Year – RAMH ● Sporting Achievement – Mark Fulton.
