Patton hits cross country top 10
Kilbarchan AAC’s Jack Patton was Scotland’s star attraction as he finished inside the top 10 at the Inter-Counties XC in Loughborough.
The Habbies prospect was in action in the Under-15 boys, representing Scotland West against the best athletes in the United Kingdom. And in tricky conditions, which saw runners battling through the muddiest circuit of the season, Patton stormed to sixth position ahead of his fellow Scottish counterparts.
A time of 18.14 was enough for a comfortable top 10 spot, winding up less than 20 seconds behind eventual winner Will Barnicoat from Surrey.
Samuel Martin made it a one-two for the English club, while Shropshire’s Liam Rowlings clinched the last spot on the podium just six seconds ahead of Patton.
Patton was easily Scotland’s top performer over the course in the boys race, with Scotland East’s Ben Sandilands second Scot home, although he finished in 29th.
The highlight race for Scotland was the Under-15 Girls race. A podium second place for Lily-Jane EvansHaggerty (Scotland West) with Anna Hedley (Scotland East) in third place was rounded off with Scotland West taking team golds following by Scotland East with team silvers.
It is the first time in an Inter-Counties XC that Scottish Districts have won two set of team medals in the same race.
