Buddies are third seeds in playoffs

-

The Scottish Ice Hockey Association have confirmed that the Paisley Pirates will be seeded third in the end of season playoffs.

With a backlog of fixtures dogging the league following a number of call-offs, the league have taken the unprecendented step to announce the seedings early to ensure that the playoff weekend and Scottish Cup finals can take place on time.

A Scottish Ice Hockey spokesman said:“Due to a backlog of fixtures the Scottish Ice Hockey Association has been working towards finding a solution to ensure the season is completed on time.

“With regular season games and Scottish Cup semi-finals still to be played, the board were faced with a dilemma over seedings for the play-off quarter-final ties.

“Just two points separate the top three sides in the SNL, but issues over ice availability has left some important games still to be rearranged.

“To ensure that the Playoff Weekend and Scottish Cup Finals events scheduled for April can take place on time, it has been decided that the league standings after the completion of the games on Sunday, March 11, will be used to determine the playoff seedings.”

The playoff quarter-final lineup will be as follows: Dundee Comets (1) v Dundee Tigers (8), Kirkcaldy Kestrels (2) v Kilmarnock Storm (7), Paisley Pirates (3) v Moray Typhoons (6), Edinburgh Capitals SNL (4) v Aberdeen Lynx (5).

Full fixture details for these matches will be confirmed in due course.
