Promotion bid is still alive

Harmony Row are defeated by Saints

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren Netball Club faced another tough test in their quest for promotion from Division One – but there is no halting the Buddies following another win.

Faced with a formidable Harmony Row side, nerves were nowhere to be seen in the first quarter as Saints produced some confident and dynamic play throughout the ranks.

Nicole Byrne was proving invaluable in ensuring that each ball made it safely through the court, reaching the cool-headed Caroline Rodger to convert.

The Saints continued to build upon their convincing lead in the second quarter but Harmony Row were coming into the game the longer it went on.

Bronwyn Powell and Sarah O’Connell combined on countless occasions, however, as Saints continued to produce some sterling displays.

The duo worked in sync in the defensive circle to close down any potential opportunites for their opponents to score.

The game continued at a fast pace, with both teams eager to finish in front.

But it was St Mirren that held their nerve to run out eventual 43-35 winners.

Congratulations go to Hannah Holmes, who was handed the player of the match award.

Meanwhile, the St Mirren second side produced another gutsy performance when they came up against a strong and experienced Kilwinning side.

Although it proved not to be their day when it came to the final 51- 13 scoreline, Saints still managed to produce some excellent defensive play.

Pressure from Vicki Pringle ensured that she came away with a well-deserved player of the match nod, with her form leading to a number of opportunities for her teammates to convert.

Unfortunately, the win was not within reach this week but again the side fought for the full 60 minutes.

The team continue to gel as a new unit and is already looking forward to the next match to test some new additions to their squad.
