Dynamic duo in GB squad Clan players to feature at training camp

- Craig Ritchie

Braehead Clan duo Brendan Brooks and Zach Sullivan have been named in the 28- man squad for Great Britain’s pre-World Championship training camp.

The duo have been in fine form for John Tripp’s Clan in recent weeks, with the Braehead side aiming to cement their spot among the play-offs.

They are in line to feature at the training camp, with a view to playing in the two upcoming international matches against Lithuania next month.

Great Britain host Lithuania at Milton Keynes on Saturday, April 14, at 7pm, and on the following day, at Coventry’s Skydome Arena, at 5.15pm.

After the games against Lithuania, the squad will be reduced to the 23 players who will represent Great Britain at the World Championship in Budapest, in Hungary, from April 22 to 28.

Great Britain, bossed by former Paisley Pirate Pete Russell, will play in Division One Group A, following their promotion and gold medal in Belfast last year, and will face hosts Hungary, along with Italy, Kazakhstan, Poland and Slovenia at the Papp Laszlo Sportarena.

Head coach, Russell, said: “This was a tough 28- man squad to choose and a lot of talented players have been left out.

“But I am happy with the roster for the training camp and the two Lithuania matches next month.

“The competition for places in the GB squad is intense, and that will continue to be the case ahead of cutting the squad to 23 players for the World Championship.

“We did something very special last year in Belfast, and that will live long in the memory. But that’s behind us now and we will face five very good teams in Budapest.”
