Racist yobs stone Chinese family’s home

Police hunt gang after attack

- David Campbell

Cops are hunting a gang of racist teen vandals who targeted the home of Chinese family.

The yobs smashed a window of the home in Birch Way in Renfrew with a large rock before fleeing the scene.

Officers say they are treating the sickening incident as a hate crime and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Three teens are believed to have launched the brazen attack at around 8.30pm on Tuesday night then fled on foot towards the town’s library in Paisley Road.

Officers say the incident was racially motivated and has left the victims, who are from a Chinese background, very badly shaken.

Sergeant Alan Mack, who is based at Johnstone Police office, has appealed for anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to come forward with information.

He said: “Officers were called to reports that a window in Birch Way had been smashed and that three teenagers had been seen running away from the scene.

“We believe the victims were targeted because of their ethnicity. This is a despicable crime that has absolutely no place in our community.

“We are treating it as a hate crime and we are very keen to speak to anyone who may have information to help us trace those who are responsible.”

Sergeant Mack added that they are looking to speak to three young men who ran away around the time of the crime.

He said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at around the time of this incident to please get in touch.

“We are keen to trace three males, aged around 15, who were seen running away from the street in the direction of the library.”
