Three victims in hospital with serious wounds

- David Campbell

Detectives are hunting armed yobs after three men were left in hospital following two separate knife attacks.

The bloody assaults, which happened in Paisley and Johnstone, left the trio seriously injured.

A 30- year- old man was stabbed in Paisley’s George Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

And less than 48 hours later, two other men, aged 23 and 28, were slashed near

Maple Drive in Johnstone.

Detective Inspector Scott McCallum, who is leading both serious assault investigations, said the armed thugs responsible will be hunted down.

He added: “We have a zero tolerance approach to violence involving weapons and we will investigate these incidents fully in order to bring those responsible to justice.”

Police were called to the junction of Maple Drive and Elm Drive in the Johnstone Castle around 12.30am on Monday morning to reports of an altercation in the street.

It is understood a man attacked the two victims with a weapon, leaving them both with significant wounds.

Cops revealed they are following a positive line of inquiry, but have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

DI McCallum added: “Two men were seriously assaulted at the junction of Maple Dive and Elm Drive, around 12.30am on Monday.

“The men, aged 23 and 28, were both taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, where they were treated for laceration injuries.

“We believe that the altercation was halted by a driver flashing their lights. We are now really keen to speak to that driver, who may have important information.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone in the street who may have heard loud noises around that time. If you did, please get in touch.”

Cops are scouring CCTV footage from the area and carrying out door- to- door enquiries to establish what happened.

Officers are also probing the Paisley attack, which happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It is understood that the man was targeted in George Street at around 12.15am.

He suffered a serious stab wound, and remains in the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Police have appealed for information.

DI McCallum adde: “A 30-year-old man suffered a stab wound. He was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

“If you saw or heard anything suspicious in the George Street area of Paisley around 12.15am on Saturday, then we would like to hear from you.” (Adjacent to Kwik Save car park, Paisley Road West)
