LET’S DANCE

Hospice challenge is a success

- Kenneth Speirs

Dancing can bring great benefits – and not just to your health.

And that was certainly the case at the St Vincent’s Hospice Strictly Come Prancing event, which raised more than £25,000 for the Johnstone-based charity.

The annual extravaganza took place in the Normandy Hotel, Renfrew, where couples danced the night away at the event based on the popular Strictly Come Dancing television series.

The 11 duos had no previous dancing experience but gamely took to the floor in an attempt to impress the judges and audience.

Fundraiser for St Vincent’s Hospice, Paul McGregor, said: “It was another fantastic night of Strictly Come Prancing, as our extremely nervous couples got the chance to show the moves they have been working hard to learn in just two months.

“Everyone performed incredibly well, with the end result being an extremely close competition. Our winners in the end were Kenny Reid from Crookston and Lauren Murney from Bridge of Weir, who eventually came out on top with their Greased Lightning routine after a dramatic dance-off with Gordon Littlejohn and MT O’Donnell.

“But most importantly, the evening was a huge success for St Vincent’s Hospice, raising more than £ 25,000 towards our services.”

St Vincent’s, in Howwood, provides specialist palliative and end- of- life care for people and families affected by life-limiting conditions all across Renfrewshire.

Also offered are a range of bereavement and counselling services for children and young people who have suffered the loss of a significant loved one.

Every penny raised goes directly into the hospice, allowing its team to continue to provide the right care at the right time for everyone who needs it.
