Kello hit for six by Renfrew

- Kello Rovers ......... 3 Renfrew ................ 6

Renfrew hit Kello for six as they battled back from two goals down to secure a crucial three points.

Colin Clark and Martin Ferry’s side struck the total for the first time since 2013, replicating a thumping win over Rutherglen Clencairn, when James Crowhurst and Chris Zok fired home the goals.

Two goals inside the opening 20 minutes had promotion- chasing Renfrew on the backfoot and staring down the barrel. However, this Renfrew side has a grit and determination that has served them well throughout the campaign.

On-loan striker David McKenna pulled one back for the side shortly before the half-hour, stepping up to slot home the spot- kick after Dominic Innes was brought down inside the area.

And Renfrew were on level terms just before the break as striker Jamie Docherty rose highest inside the box to thunder home a header to make it 2-2.

However, it still wasn’t plain sailing as a sucker punch from the hosts seconds before the half-time whistle had Kello go into the break marginally ahead.

A half-time talking-to appeared to do the trick as McKenna bounded on to a Danny McLeay kick-out to fire home yet another equaliser.

But it would be an inspired substitution that would prove the difference, with Scott Morton replacing Docherty with half an hour still to play.

Morton clearly had his shooting boots on as he fired an 18-minute hat-trick to clinch the points for the visitors.

His first came from the spot after Jamie Benton was sent tumbling to the turf by the Kello goalkeeper.

And he wasted no time in adding a second after Kello were reduced to 10 men for an apparent stamp on Thomas Miller.

Morton was on hand to tie things up in the closing stages as he fired home his third, and Renfrew’s sixth to seal the victory.

Renfrew: McLeay, Barbour, Miller, Lyden, Healy, Chisholm, Benton, O’Keefe, Docherty, McKenna, Innes.

Subs: Burgess, Quinn, Wylie, Morton and Cochrane.
