Homes plan for former hospital site
Taylor Wimpey wants to build 110 homes on the grounds of the former Merchiston Hospital.
The firm has applied for permission for a new estate on a 10-acre brownfield site in Linwood.
Bosses have outlined proposals for a range of three and four-bedroom houses.
Stephen Andrew, Technical Director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, confirmed papers have been lodged for the project.
He said:“Taylor Wimpey is delighted to confirm that we have made a detailed planning application for the land off Bridge of Weir Road in Linwood.
“As well as an impressive range of new homes, our development would provide a range of economic benefits for the local Linwood area including jobs, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses.
“We believe this development would be a great addition to the area and it also complements our other developments across the region”
Blueprits also include plans for the creation of recreational space and a new footpath.
The hospital was opened in 1948 after Paisley Burgh Council bought Merchiston House.
New wings were added in 1958, and, in 1979, it was redeveloped, with four 30-bedded units built to a modern bungalow design.
The centre was closed between 2007 and 2008, with all patients transferred to neighbouring wards.
A decision is expected on the application in the coming weeks.
