Bumper book boost for school
Mini-bookworms in Bishopton are in luck.
Construction firm Taylor Wimpey West Scotland has donated a bumper package of books and £250 to Bishopton Primary School.
Lorna Campbell, literacy champion at Bishopton Primary School, told the Express:“I would like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey on behalf of everyone at our school. “We really appreciate their donation. “Books are a great way to fire up children’s imaginations and to teach them about the world around them, so it’s fantastic to be able to add some new titles to our school.”
One of the books in the big delivery was How we Build Your Home with Millie Mortar and Handy Andy.
The new story, written and produced for Taylor Wimpey aims to educate young readers about what goes into building a house as well as staying safe on construction sites.
Enough copies of the book were donated for every pupil in primaries one, two and three.
Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said:“We hope that the book will become a firm favourite with the children.
“As well as explaining to them how the new homes in their area are built, the book presents some important health and safety messages about how to stay safe around building sites.”
Marking World Book Day, the local firm wanted to give back to children in the village and beyond.
Audrey added:“World Book Day is a great opportunity to celebrate books and reading.
“As part of our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we build, it was our pleasure to donate £250 to Bishopton Primary School.
“We recognise how valuable it is for young children to enjoy reading and hope that the new books will inspire the children and fuel their imaginations.”
