Crime tally hits over 100

-

A community council heard at its March meeting that 101 crimes had been reported in the area, of which 61 were detected.

Police officers told Paisley West and Central Community Council that one of the offences was alleged serious assault.

Council wardens told the meeting that since its February meeting 398 foot patrols had been made, and these identified five cases of dog fouling, 13 cases of fly- tipping, one case of vandalism and four abandoned cards.

Two fixed penalty notices had been issued.

The community council noted that the community wardens’ role is separate from those of traffic wardens, who have powers to ticket cars or move them on if illegally parked.

Community council member Stuart MacRae said there had been litter and fly tipping around Carbrook Street.

The wardens said they would advise housing officers and ask them to encourage their tenants to tidy up.

Mr MacRae proposed organising a litter-pick and it was agreed to contact Renfrewshire Council’s Team Up to Clean Up with a date requesting bags, pickup sticks and high-visibilty disposable vests.

A member told the meeting that “a lot” of needles had been found lying on the ground at the site of the Half Time School, Paisley, and that this indicated it was currently being used as a drugs den. The community wardens agreed to investigate.

It was noted by the community council that parking outside Coats Memorial Church is still causing obstruction.

Members also noted that during the recent heavy snowfall the collection of bins was suspended.

A member asked if there was anything the community council could do to help elderly or disabled members of the community when the weather is bad, and if there was a scheme in place to help elderly people, or if would be possible to try and set up one.

It was noted that older people’s group ROAR was providing a service for older adults locally.
