Yob warned after threats to partner

Violent brute’s boozy outburst

- Ron Moore Kevin Alexander

A violent boyfriend who vowed to ‘do in’ his girlfriend has been spared jail.

Bully Kevin Alexander, 30, who has an appalling record for violent crimes, threatened receptionist Andrea Murphy because she didn’t want to go back out drinking with him.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard the couple had been out together in Renfrew and they returned to their house at around 9pm when all hell broke loose.

Neighbours heard the disturbance in which Alexander could be heard shouting threats of violence at his partner Ms Murphy.

Alexander, formerly of Crommer Way in Paisley, appeared from custody and admitted charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm in that he repeatedly shouted, swore and uttered threats of violence at Ms Murphy on November 22, 2017.

He also admitted a charge of breaching his bail by not

appearing at court.

Alexander appeared for sentence before Sheriff Frances McCartney.

Defence agent Paul Coyle said: “He pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity on the substantive matter and admitted the failure to appear.

“Clearly custody is an option given his record of previous convictions.

“But, as an alternative to custody, I would suggest a Community Payback Order with certain requirements including supervision and unpaid work.”

He added Alexander, whose previous convictions include attempted murder, assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement and assault to the danger of life, was keen to remain in his relationship with Ms Murphy, and urged the court to take into account the time had already spent on remand.

Sheriff McCartney warned the Alexander he had better toe the line and comply with the court’s order.

She said: “You will be placed on a Community Payback Order under supervision for 12 months including your attending the It’s Up To You programme requirement on domestic violence. There will be a conduct requirement for you to attend drugs or alcohol programmes as directed, and you will perform 80 hours of unpaid work within five months.”

She told Alexander he will be brought back to court in three months for a review of his behaviour and added: “I want to make sure she is protected from any further harm.”
