Facilities for the blind are great

-

The Royal Blind and Scottish War Blinded have opened two new services for visually impaired people in Hawkhead Road in Paisley, and I am delighted that these state of the art facilities are in my constituency.

The Royal Blind Jenny’s Well Care Home specialises in nursing care for older people with sight loss, while the Scottish War Blinded Hawkhead Centre provides activities and support for veterans who have lost their sight either during or after service.

Both charities have worked tirelessly in partnership to deliver much needed services to blind and partially sighted people, and the specialist care home and day services have the potential to be life changing to my constituents in Paisley, and the wider Renfrewshire community.

I was equally delighted that the First Minister had the opportunity to visit the services last week and see first hand the great work going on in Paisley.

Since the announcement that the Hawkhead site would be remodeled and upgraded, the charities have worked closely with Renfrewshire Council to ensure that the services are the best they can be.

As a constituency MSP, its always very rewarding when local government works effectively with regional and national organisations so as to bring the very best into the local area.

I’m confident that I will only hear positive stories coming from the centre in the future.
