Clark inspires Scotland to famous victory
Renfrew FC’s Cameron Clark played a starring role as Scotland Schools saw off the Auld Enemy.
Full-back Clark, who’s father Colin is ‘ Frew gaffer, travelled to York City’s Bootham Crescent knowning that victory would take them top of this year’s Centenary Shield table.
However, they knew that history would count against them – having not won in England since the Millennium.
The hosts started on the front foot, with Scotland keeper Elliot Anderson having to be alert to block a strike from England captain Nathan Brown.
But the defence, with Clark slotting in at fullback, remained strong as they rode out the early pressure.
Scotland edged into the game, although spurned a glorious opportunity as Inverness Caley Thistle striker Danny Mackay missed from the penalty spot after being upended inside the box.
But Mackay made amends as he netted moments later as he headed home the opener in the 18th minute.
That sparked the hosts to rally up the park and they seemed destined to haul themselves level after Cormac Pike fired beyond Anderson in goal.
However, Clark proved to be the saviour of the hour as he managed to race back and clear off the line before the interval.
The second half saw England reduced to 10 men and Scotland took full advantage as Nathan Fell wrapped up a famous victory with an unstoppable drive into the top corner with just four minutes remaining.
