We’ll get the job done

Mullen: Title is another point closer

- Craig Ritchie

Danny Mullen insists that Saints don’t see the league as being finished after dropping points away to Inverness Caley Thistle at the weekend.

And although confident that St Mirren will finish the Championship at the top of the table, Mullen says there is no room to get carried away until they are confirmed as champions.

The weekend draw leaves Saints needing seven points from their final six games, however, results elsewhere could see them win the league at Glebe Park against Brechin on Saturday.

But Mullen’s purely focused on just getting the job done, regardless of when it eventually happens.

He said: “The boys know that the league is not over yet.

“We just need to take every league game as it comes.

“We approach the game with the same efforts as we do every other and we are keen to keep our standards up.

“Unfortunately, in the second half of Saturday, we allowed our standards to perhaps drop a little bit and that has came back to bite us.

“But next time we will try and put that to bed and get back to taking the three points.

“The lads are really disappointed they haven’t managed to come away with all three points, but we have to just focus on the positives and realise we only need seven points to win the league.

“It was another point towards the total that we are trying to get to – and we need to look at it like that and keep our heads held high.

“We now have to look forward and the next game with Brechin because that is our next opportunity to put things right and help us on our way to the highest points total possible.”

Mullen has been in superb form since arriving from Livingston in January, bagging two goals in his last three outings having forced himself into the starting XI.

And the 22-year-old says he won’t be taking his foot off the gas any time yet.

He added: “It has been a great move for me here.

“It is a tough team for me to get into but I have managed it and to stay in the team is my target.

“I know I have to be at my best every week to stay in the team.

“Gavin Reilly is on the bench just now and he has 22 goals this season.

“If I’m not at my best then I know I will be back on the bench.”

And Mullen reserved special praise for the punters that flocked to Inverness at the weekend, adding: “The fans have been great since I came here.

“It is a fair trek to Inverness but they were tremendous from start to finish and that gives you an extra boost on the pitch.”
