Builders plan to create 110 homes at old hospital site
Taylor Wimpey unveil blueprint for 10-acre development
Taylor Wimpey has revealed plans for a massive housing estate on the grounds of a former hospital.
The firm wants to built 110 homes on the 10- acre brownfield site in Linwood that was home to Johnstone Hospital.
Boss es have release blueprints for a range of three and four-bedroom houses.
They outlined proposals in a report to Renfrewshire Council planners.
It stated: “Taylor Wimpey and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are working together to bring forward a new residential development on land at the former Johnstone Hospital site in Linwood.
“The vision for the development is based on the provision of a high- quality development appropriate for its context, that will facilitate a sustainable environment of richness and variety.
“This vision is to maintain and compliment the quality of the site and natural heritage, whilst interpreting the needs and aspirations of society.
“A range of house types are proposed from three and fourbedroom detached and semidetached housing.
“A palette of materials will be proposed for the house types throughout the development, with identification of key areas where materials will be agreed with the planning authority to create places.
“A mixture of on and off-street parking has been provided throughout the development.
“Parking bays have been accommodated on private driveways and shared surfaces where possible.”
The housebuilder held a public exhibition to display ideas and discuss the project with the public.
The event took place in Tweedie Hall last April and bosses insist it garnered “limited interest” but “those consulted were supportive of the proposals”.
They say families “welcomed the investment being made and the opportunities that the proposed development can deliver”.
The firm has targeted the area due to its close transport links to the rest of Renfrewshire and Glasgow.
New roads and footpaths will be built to accommodate the buildings.
The report added: “Taylor Wimpey’s design approach is to create key areas that provide landmarks and vistas.
“We intend to develop community focused area’s that create a welcoming feature to the development and for the community of Linwood, providing a sense of place.
“We promote an integrated approach, but give priority in our design to pedestrians and cyclists.
“Roads have only been allowed for where necessary, which promotes the use of walking and cycling.”
A decision is expected on the application in June.
