Appeal after school vandalism
Police have appealed for information after mindless vandals broke into a primary school and tried to flood a classroom.
The yobs smashed a window at Bargarran Primary School, in Erskine, before clogging up a sink and leaving a tap running.
The senseless incident unfolded at around 7.30pm on Wednesday night and cops have asked for witnesses to come forward.
It is understood the suspects lobbed a large rock through a window to get inside before trying to cause water damage to a classroom then fled the scene.
Police say the cost of the damage caused is still to be established.
Sergeant Alan Mack, who is based in Johnstone, has warned that the force will not tolerate vandalism and have upped patrols in areas close to schools during the school holidays.
He said: “We were called to reports that Bargarran Primary School in Erskine had been broken into at around 7.30pm.
“A window had been crudely smashed with a large rock and the suspects gained access. While inside they clogged up a classroom sink and turned on the taps.
“There was some water damage caused.
“I would ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious near the school at around the time of the incident to please get in touch.
“Did you see a group of youths running away or hanging around the school at the time perhaps? If so, we want to hear from you.
“During the school break we will be carrying out extra patrols near school buildings to help deter incidents like this one.”
A Renfrewshire Council spokeswoman said: “We are working closely with colleagues from Police Scotland after an act of vandalism at the school and encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
If you have any information you should contact police on 101.
