DAVE CLIMBS BEN NEVIS FOR CHARITY

- Chris Taylor

A pet shop boss has scaled the country’s highest mountain to raise cash for homeless animals.

Dave Muir, 36, roped in pals to coin in £259,000 to help rehoming charities by tackling Ben Nevis.

The Paisley Pets at Home manager tested his mettle by climbing 1,345m.

He said: “A few of us climbed Ben Nevis to help reach our fundraising target for our own charity.

“It is a challenge at the best of times, but can even be a little dangerous when the weather is still cold.

“We had huge support from all of our customers and they’ve been filling up buckets with their donations.

“Over the winter Pets at Home already raised enough to pay for three million meals in rescue centres around the country.”

Dave manages the firm’s Abbotsinch branch and headed for the summit with friends from shops around the west of Scotland.

They headed for the hills last week and found plenty of snow at the top.

He added: “We met our aim to raise a huge amount of money to fund all the amazing work that’s done to keep animals safe.

“It’s the largest amount raised for the cause and will be put towards looking after abandoned pets.

“It really is a huge amount of money and will benefit so many animals.

“Support Adoption For Pets has never raised so much money and it will make such a difference.

“It supports more than 1,000 rehoming centres across the UK and this money will help with food and running costs.”

Support Adoption For Pets was set up to help struggling charities 12 years ago.

It provides grant funding, donation schemes and fundraising initiatives through cash raised by customers and staff.

Money raised also supports adoption centres at more than 400 stores for thousands of small pets such as rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs.
