A Paisley business is supporting the drive to create more apprenticeships in Scotland’s housing associations.

MacDowall Street-based building firm CGC is one of the sponsors of tomorrow’s Housing Scotland Apprentice Event that’s being run by the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA).

The one-day conference is aiming to highlight the importance of apprenticeships for the future of the housing sector, as well as the benefits they can bring.

CGC is already well known for its long- established apprenticeship programme, and has a specific emphasis on helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds on to the career ladder.

It says it shares the SFHA’s vision of helping young women and men find rewarding careers in housing, and has been doing a similar job in the construction industry for many years.

Leo Reilly, managing director of CGC, said: “We already know about the good work housing associations do across Renfrewshire and beyond – not just in

delivering good housing but in regenerating their communities.

“They are the unsung heroes in communities across Scotland.

“This apprentice event is the ideal occasion in which to support the SFHA. We recognise and applaud the efforts being made by it to increase apprenticeships in housing.

“It is entirely appropriate that a movement set up to deliver good housing and help communities should be leading the way in providing young people with a flying start to their careers and creating the highly-qualified housing professionals of the future.”

The SFHA event will be held at City of Glasgow College’s Riverside campus and more than 80 people from many housing providers are due to attend.

The day long- event will conclude with the Apprenticeship Challenge, when apprentices from all over Scotland will showcase a presentation they have been working on.
