Duo have designs on Paisley Comic Con fest
Young people at a Paisley church are showcasing their talents as part of a top festival.
David McBride, from Paisley, and Matthew Arrighi, from Renfrew, are members of St Matthew’s Church of the Nazarene.
And they have taken part for several years in its #Thrive Youth programme, which encourages young people to get artistic.
So it’s only natural they would be excited by a Facebook call-out from Paisley Comic Con for community groups to get involved with this year’s event that celebrates comicbook art.
The pair met the team at Paisley Comic Con and ended up codesigning three events that have featured as part of the festival.
David and Matthew also lead a Retro Gaming afternoon, with a selection of vintage consoles and classic games, as well as, Dungeons and Dragons for Dummies.
St Matthew’s will also play host to a double feature film night featuring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters on a state-of-the-art HD cinema screen.
Ryan Smith, youth pastor at St Matthew’s, said: “This has been an excellent opportunity for the guys and the rest of Thrive to share their interests on a wider platform, I can’t wait to share in these events with them.
“We really appreciate the work of the Paisley Comic Con team in partnering with our youth to put on such great events for all the family.”
Alasdair Watson, co-founder of Paisley Comic Con, said it had been great collaborating with the young people in the Thrive youth group.
“They’ve had great ideas for events, and it’s been fun turning them into reality,” he said.
“We’re really looking forward to co- managing the events with them in St Matthew’s when the festival rolls around, and we’re hoping to work on more projects with them later in this year of young people.”
Tickets cost £3 each, or four tickets for £10, for the film night which takes place tonight from 5pm.
