Arctic Monkeys give Scots the cold shoulder

- Disappointment softened by cash saving

There are a lot of unhappy music fans in Renfrewshire this week.

That’s after news broke that Arctic Monkeys would not be performing in Glasgow as part of their upcoming tour.

Fans were left devastated when they realised the English rockers had snubbed Scotland in the run of live gigs.

Hitting the road in September, Alex Zane and co will visit Manchester, London, Birmingham, their hometown of Sheffield, Dublin and Newcastle.

Music lovers took to social media to vent their anger at the unpopular decision.

One fan dubbed it a “piece of nonsense”.

On Twitter @llaura_marie said: “Arctic Monkeys touring everywhere but Glasgow? “Someone explain.” Another fan @_isssaa added: “I love @ArcticMonkeys and would travel anywhere to see them but I’m very offended they have not released any Scotland dates.”

Some solace was found in the fact that the Monkeys would still be headlining TRNSMT Festival at Glasgow Green on Sunday, July 1.

Fan @beckacorson theorised on Twitter: “Usually there’s a part of contracts that states a band can’t play in the city in the two months either before or after a festival.

“So, because they’re playing TRNSMT in July, they can’t do a Glasgow date in September.”

Eye-watering ticket prices for people in other parts of the UK have also softened the blow for Scots.

With no Glasgow date, Scottish fans are saving anywhere between £45 and £80, which those south of the border have to cough up to see their beloved Monkeys.

The price has been dubbed “daylight robbery” by @psycho~_jam on Twitter, while @SidneyPhlegm added “This isn’t some glorious DIY indie rock homecoming, it’s just a band making as much £ as possible lol.”

It’s not all been doom at gloom in the world of rock music

Friendly Fires brought some good news to Glasgow and the west, announcing their spot on TRSNMT Festival’s line up for Sunday, July 8.

They join The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Chvches, Lewis Capaldi and Jessie Ware.

Famed for hits like Jump In The Pool, Hawaiian Air and Paris, the English group are making a comeback from their last album in 2012.

Single-day tickets for TRSNMT Festival start at £59.50.
