Reeling in the years at hospice charity do

Ceilidh marked three decades of caring

- Kathleen Speirs

Three is the magic number for one hospice.

A trio of musicians have made a bumper donation to St Vincent’s Hospice, which is marking three decades of caring for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Organising a ceilidh with a 30- strong Strip the Willow medley, Craig Hart along with David McCallum and Greg Brown helped raise more than £2,000 for the charity.

Reels, marches and waltzes were in full swing at the charity night which took place at the Inchinnan Community Centre.

Thirty well-known TV and movie theme songs were compiled into a traditional Scottish Strip the Willow.

Craig Hart said: “The event was a huge success, with some amazing support from lots of local companies who donated prizes to our raffle, and even Tennents, The Hilton and all three Glasgow based Premiership Football Teams helping out.

“We thought the Strip the Willow was a great way to incorporate the anniversary into the event, so David and myself put it together just for the night.

“We had used social media a lot throughout the planning of the event, so we even had a Snapchat filter to get people sharing their pictures from the night.

“It was a fantastic event which was extremely well supported by family, friends and the local community, with the money going to a fantastic cause.”

Based in Howwood, hospice staff have organised a number of events to mark its 30th anniversary.

Chief executive of St Vincent’s Hospice, Kate Lennon, said: “This is such a creative and exciting way to celebrate 30 years of St. Vincent’s, and we could not be more grateful for their extremely generous donation.

“We know all too well how much work goes in to organising these events, and to add on to that the amount of time, skill and patience it must have taken to orchestrate 30 movie and TV themes into a ceilidh dance, is unbelievable.

“Donations like this make such a real difference to so many across the community, and on behalf of everyone here, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that took part in, supported and organised the event.”
