Woman on drinkdriving charge

-

A woman has been charged with driving five-times over the limit with three tots in the car.

Jafina Kaur Devine, 35, is accused of boozing before getting behind the wheel sat next to a baby, toddler and a four-year-old.

She denied drink-driving when the case called at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Susan Sinclair released Devine on bail and ordered her to return later for trial.

She said: “Keep out of trouble, don’t discuss the case with anyone who might know something about it and come back to court when you’re supposed to.”

Devine was arrested after being stopped on Renfrew’s Kings Inch Road on Sunday.

Prosecutors claim she got in her Vauxhall Astra Breeze with 108 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the limit is just 22.

They allege she put the youngsters – aged 11 months, one and four – at risk of “unnecessary suffering or injury to health”.

Kaur is also charged with driving the black five-door hatchback without insurance.

She was held in police custody over night after being stopped and appeared handcuffed in the dock.

Defence lawyer Mark Chambers insisted his client was not guilty.

A pre- trial hearing is scheduled for June with a trial set to take place in July.
