Square go pair fined for rammy in the street
Yobs clashed after their girlfriends fell out
Two yobs squared up to each other in the middle of a busy street because their girlfriends had fallen out.
Steven Cardy, 50, and Robert Meikle, 30, almost came to blows in front of shocked families in Shortroods.
They bawled foul-mouthed rants at each other before a brawl almost broke out.
The pair admitted facing- off when their case called at Paisley Sheriff Court.
Prosecutor Saud Ul-Hassan told how passing cops were ignored when they ordered the men to calm down.
He said: “The street was busy with pedestrians and traffic.
“Police were on uniform mobile patrol.
“They observed two men squaring up to each other.
“T h e y w e re w a r n e d . “But both refused to desist.”
The court heard the men sparked a rammy after bumping into each other at Love Street and Albion Street in Paisley.
They star ted shouting and swearing at each other before coming together last September 20.
They had to be dragged away by police and separated.
Defence lawyer Tony Callahan claimed Cardy was spurred on by drink.
He said: “He has a problem with alcoholism.
“He and the co-accused vaguely know each other.
“Their respective girlfriends were involved in a dispute.”
Meikle was also hauled into the dock after flouting the terms of a court-ordered curfew.
Solicitor Gemma Rathey admitted her client had broken the rules and had been involved in the street spat.
She said: “He lives with his partner, who is pregnant at the moment.
“There was a disagreement in respect of their partners.
“They have come into contact in the street and behaved in this way.”
Sheriff James Spy hit the pair with a financial penalty.
He said: “I am going to impose fines on each of you.”
Cardy, of nearby Springbank Road, was told to pay £100, while Meikle, of Clarance Street, was ordered to cough-up £250.
