Drunk gets into stranger’s bed
Woman terrified by late night disturbance
A drunk crept into the wrong flat in the middle of the night and fell asleep in a terrified woman’s bed.
The frightened 21-year-old was completely shocked to discover a man lurking around her Paisley home in the early hours of yesterday morning.
It is understood she was woken by banging inside her Causeyside Street flat around 3.50am and went to investigate.
As she made her way through the house she came face to face with a man she didn’t recognise.
The quick-thinking woman tried to usher him from the property – but the prowler had other ideas.
Instead of realising he was in the wrong place, he decided to make himself at home and slipped into the woman’s bed.
She quickly fled the property to get help as the man made himself comfortable in her bedroom.
She was able to raise the alarm and police raced to the scene to investigate.
Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, explained how officers found the man inside the property.
She said: “Officers were called to an address in Causeyside Street, Paisley, at 3.50am on April 26.
“The 21-year-old female homeowner reported a man had entered the property and had refused to leave.
“When officers arrived they found a man asleep in a bed within, covered in a blanket.
“They removed the man and the homeowner was able to return home safely.
“This was clearly a distressing incident but, thankfully, it appears to have come about as a result of an error, rather than anything more sinister.”
It is believed the man was under the influence of drink or drugs and had entered the wrong house after a night out.
Police Scotland say a 22-yearold man was arrested and charged with public order offences and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
