Hagg Bar A dig deep to progress through to finals night

two legs.

St Peter’s then took the last doubles game to hold a slender 2- 1 advantage going into the singles.

Their lead was increased as Andy Callary beat Donald Duncan 2- 0, a win swiftly followed by Drew Callary seeing off Chris Dowling by the same margin.

With the game now 4-1 to St Peter’s, the Railway team showed some fighting spirit and Garry Jardine won his singles against Robert MacPhee 2-1 to set up a comeback.

Joe Shirley for St Peter’s had other ideas, though, and won his match against Craig Moore 2-1 to give them the result and a tie against Hagg Bar A.

The first game in the bottom half of the draw, played in Court Bar, was between The Kelburn and Court Bar, the only team to end up with a home tie in the draw.

The Court team made home advantage count as they held a 2-1 lead at the end of the doubles games and through John Barclay Sr’s 2-1 win over Gary Sturrock and then Alex McAllister’s 2-0 win over Mick Hart, they looked unstoppable.

Ian Burke for the Kelburn gave them some hope as he held on to beat Paul Carruthers 2-1 to make it 4-2 but Steven Bogle for Court Bar killed off The Kelburns’ hopes by beating Alan Sturrock 2-1 to give the Court Bar a place on finals night.

The last of the games which was played in The Keystone saw Gleniffer Hotel take on Pickwicks and right from the start the Renfrew team took control winning all three doubles and also the first of the singles when Chris Maguire beat Alan Ferguson Sr to give them a 4-0 lead.

Rab McTavish for Gleniffer pulled one back for his team when he beat Dean Fitch but it was small consolation as Robert Morrison won the game for Pickwicks when he beat Alan Ferguson Jnr to give a final result of 5-1.

In the First Division there was an important game at the bottom end of the table as Arthurlie Inns and Hagg Bar C played a match postponed from earlier in the season.

As expected it was a close game and it was no surprise when the match went all the way to the third leg of the last doubles before the home team hit the winning double to take a vital two points.

There was also a postponed game played in the Second Division as Flying Horse B played their game against Hazel Pirates and this too proved to be a close match as it swung one way and then the other before the home team took the points with a 5-4 victory.

The win puts both teams on eight points but the Pirates hold remain 10th as a result of a superior leg difference.

Even though there weren’t a lot of games this week, the big scorers were out in force with a total of six maximums being hit.

There were also some fast games as Railway Inn’s Chris Dowling and St Peters Andy Callary both recorded 14-dart legs in their games.

The highest finish of the night came from Railway Inn’s Garry Jardine with a very respectful 116.

There are some good contests in prospect this weekend in both divisions.

In Division One we have a second versus fourth clash between Pickwicks and Flying Horse A and in Division Two, it’s third verus fifth as Cafuffals and Tartan Rose go head-to-head.
