Arthurlie are hoping to shock Auchinleck

Dunterlie squad aim to continue winning form

- Craig Ritchie

The action continues to come thick and fast in the juniors this week with midweek fixtures and the usual Saturday clashes mounting up.

Arthurlie return to league action this afternoon as they travel to face Scottish Cup finalists Auchinleck Talbot in the hope of causing an upset.

But ‘Lie will take hope from the fact that they managed to record their second win of the season, against Clydebank a fortnight ago.

However, Billy Ogilvie’s side will be looking for an improved performance than the one which saw them sunk 3-2 at the hands of Kirkintilloch Rob Roy on Wednesday night.

Kieran McAleenan’s strike had handed the Barrhead side the early lead at Guy’s Meadow but they were unable to hold on as former Arthurlie striker Gary Carroll levelled things up before the half-time whistle.

Carroll added his second after the break before Stefan Law made it 3-1 to Stewart Maxwell’s side as they looked to wrap up the points.

A late goal from Hal Bohme only served to reduce the deficit and despite a late period of pressure, Arthurlie were unable to find an equaliser.

The Barrhead side remain third bottom, but with both Hurlford and GIrvan having games in hand, they could find themselves at the foot of the table in the coming weeks unless they can experience an upturn in fortunes.

Meanwhile, Renfrew will be bidding to cement their spot among the promotion places, with Colin Clark and Martin Ferry’s side currently sitting second in the Super First Division. There were no midweek clashes for them this week, however they are preparing to take on Rutherglen Glencairn today motivated by last Saturday’s victory over Kilsyth Rangers.

Neilston are back at the Brig O’Lea this weekend as they look to bounce back from a couple of poor results which have seen their promotion charge somewhat stutter over the course of the last week.

Saturday’s draw with Rossvale was followed up by a disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of St Roch’s on Wednesday night, where a goal from Simon McBryde wasn’t enough to spare the Farmer’s Boys blushes.

And in the Central District Second Division, Johnstone Burgh boss Jamie McKim will be looking to build upon his first win as Burgh boss following a 7-0 victory over Newmains at Keanie Park on Wednesday. It was the perfect way to bounce back from a 7-0 defeat of their own against Forth Wanderers last weekend.

The Burgh this time hit the road as they travel to take on Lanark United.
