Reality sets in as SPFL release key fixture dates

Saints to kick off Premiershi­p campaign at beginning of August

St Mirren are getting ready to dig out their diaries after the SPFL announced when next season’s fixtures will be released.

Jack Ross’ Buddies are preparing for their first assualt on the top flight in three years following their stunning Championsh­ip title win this season.

Saints are now looking forward to trips to the likes of Celtic Park and Ibrox, as opposed to jaunts to Dumfries and Brechin.

The Paisley side will also have more weekends off due to internatio­nal breaks and also the winter shutdown, which the Premiershi­p sides have enjoyed for the past two seasons.

The SPFL has confirmed that the fixtures for season 2018/19 will be published on Friday, June 15.

On that day the full fixture lists will be revealed for all 42 clubs across the Ladbrokes Premiershi­p, Championsh­ip, League 1 and League 2, with the opening games scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, August 4.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “We know that fixture publicatio­n day is an eagerlyant­icipated date in the diary for fans across the country and we are very much looking forward to another exciting campaign of Scottish football in 2018/19.

“There is still plenty to play for this season, including a thrilling Helicopter Saturday title- decider double in League 1 and League 2 this weekend and the unrivalled tension and drama of the play-offs to follow next month.”

Key league dates for 2018/ 19: Opening fixtures for all four divisions: Weekend of Saturday, August 4.

Ladbrokes Premiershi­p winter break: Monday, December 31 until Friday, January 18.

Ladbrokes Premiershi­p final fixture round: Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19.

Ladbrokes Premiershi­p play-off final: Thursday, May 23 and Sunday, May 26.
