Talented singer is snapped up by major music publisher

A talented musician is in fine voice after being scouted by a major publisher.

Singer-songwriter Todi Calder has just been signed with Alex Balkin Music.

The 21-year-old from Barrhead told the Express she’s excited to be teaming up with one of the best.

“Alex Balkin has worked with so many big names, including George Michael,” Todi said.

“While having support from family and friends is great, to have someone of that standing like your stuff is such a confidence boost.

“I can’t wait to see what this year brings,” she added.

Picking up a guitar at just four- years- old, Todi followed in her musical father, David’s, footsteps and began strumming some chords.

The self- taught talent then decided to pursue music at age 11.

By the time she was 15, Todi was performing live to 100-strong crowds in venues across the country.

She now has almost 12,000 followers on Facebook alone.

“My first ever performance was in St Andrew’s in the Square in Glasgow,” she added.

“My dad managed to get me a gig there last minute. “I just loved the whole thing. “Playing my own songs live to a big crowd was an amazing feeling I had never experienced before.

“From that moment I knew I wanted to do nothing else.”

Leaving school at 16, Todi focused solely on her music career.

Relentless gigging and writing more than 100 songs over the years has paid off.

Top music publisher Alex Balkin heard of Todi’s talent through a mutual friend and went along to one of her gigs.

He told the Express: “When I first saw Todi I knew she had something special.

“She’s got a real knack for song writing and has a unique voice.

“On top of that she hasn’t let the music industry affect her and neither has her dad David who manages her.

“I knew straight away that I wanted to sign her.

“This is looking like an exciting year for Todi’s career.”

Working on her upcoming single release and a tour later in the year, things can only get better for Todi.

“Thinking about who Alex has worked with and what he is already organising for me is brilliant,” she added.

“It just proves that if you have a dream to keep working at it, as it will pay off.”
