Gran fined £450 for vile racist remarks

Cop was verbally abused when called out to rammy

- Chris Taylor

A bigot racially abused a cop called to probe a fight at her home and told him: “I’m telling you nothing – Muslim, P**i f**k.”

Janice Connor, 54, hurled abuse at PC Kulraj Burmy after he was sent to investigate a rammy.

Connor claims she hurled slurs after her drink was spiked at a pub – but no proof was produced.

The yob admitted racially abusing the officer when she was hauled into the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Frank Clarke told how she turned on the police when they tried to help.

He said: “Police had been called to a disturbance.

“They were speaking to an uncooperative witness when attention was drawn to the accused.

“One of the officers were direct to take her details.

“For some reason, when asked, she shouted, ‘I’m telling you nothing, you Muslim, P**i f**k.

“Nobody could understand her behaviour.

“She also referred to an officer as a ‘p***k’ and told him to ‘f**k off’.

“She was taken to hospital because she had a small cut over her right eye.

“It was thought, she might be suffering from some psychosis.”

Cops were called to the flat in Johnstone’s Swallow Drive after a row with a neighbour around 11pm.

The court heard she lived a “quiet life” at her home and usually “kept herself to herself”.

Connor was arrested and taken to hospital to be checked over by doctors.

She spent a night in a cell after aiming racist jibes at the officer shortly after 11pm, on January 29.

Defence lawyer Peter Galletly insisted her client was “extremely embarrassed and disappointed in her own conduct.”

He said: “She had gone out on her own to two pubs.

“She didn’t consider herself to be beyond the control of her own behaviour.

“She feels something must have been put in her drink.

“But she is unable to provide any proof of it having occurred.”

The solicitor told how Connor had injuries to her arms after the altercation.

But he says she has “very little memory” of what happened.

Sheriff Tom McCartney blasted Connor and ordered her to pay a £450 fine.

He said: “I think you probably don’t need me to tell you how unacceptable the remarks you made were.

“There are the type of remarks which simply have no place whatsoever in our society.”
