Walrus film premiere goes down a treat
Movie launch is a box office hit with everyone
The glamour of a H o l l ywo o d film premiere has landed in Paisley.
Buddies turned out in their droves for the We Are The Walrus film launch on Friday, April 27.
More than 100 local people worked to create the piece that celebrates the town’s culture, which was screened for the first time in St Matthew’s Church.
Community organisation the Star Project is at the helm of the process and couldn’t be more proud of the end result.
Project coordinator, Heather Kay, said: “The film launch was a great success.
“We had a brilliant turn out, including councillors and MP Mhairi Black, who loved it too.
“It’s a great thing for Paisley to have.”
The 14 minute- long film documents the process behind the We Are The Walrus parade that took place in November last year.
It saw a band of merry walruses march through the town before a ceremony atthe iconic Grand Fountain landmark.
Funding from Renfrewshire Council allowed the film to be made, with creative direction from local artist Mandy McIntosh.
Mandy addressed excited guests before they settled down in front of the big screen.
After roaring cheers and applause they tucked into traditional cinema snacks such as popcorn and hotdogs.
Star Project staff, service users and members of the local community were all involved in the mammoth process.
Giving up their time and putting their skills to good use is what Heather thinks has made the piece such a success.
“For the people who were involved in the film to see the whole thing come together was a real eye- opener,” she added.
“It gave them a real sense of all the effort that goes into producing a film like this.
“There was a sense of real achievement and pride, but also appreciation for everyone who helped.
“This was an amazing experience for everyone involved, thank you so much to all who took part.”
