A man was rushed to hospital for treatment after he was attacked during a violent street brawl in Paisley.

The horror assault unfolded in the town’s George Street when a thug battered the 30-year-old man on the head with a large piece of wood. He suffered a serious gash to his head at around 8.10pm on Friday which required seven stitches at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

It is understood the pair became embroiled in a heated exchange in the west end street when the victim approached the other man armed with a glass bottle.

The incident quickly turned physical as the men started fighting in front of shocked passers-by and one of the men sustained a serious cut to the head during the altercation.

Police and ambulance crews raced to the incident, which is believed to have been sparked by a family argument, which got out of hand.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, says officers responded to reports a street rammy involving men wielding weapons.

She said: “Police were called to reports of disturbance in George Street in Paisley, at around 8.10pm on Friday, April 30.
