‘Frew aim to finish with a flourish tonight

Club hopes for big turnout of fans as promotion hopes build

- Craig Ritchie

The curtain comes down on Renfrew’s season this evening when they welcome Brian McGinty’s Irvine Meadow to New Western Park.

Promotion remains a real possibility for ‘Frew as they sit second in the table behind already promoted Petershill.

The race for a return to the top flight isn’t as clear-cut as simply requiring a victory due to the teams below them in the standings still maintaining a number of games in hand.

But, having been sitting in the top four spots since the opening week of the season, three points over former St Mirren ace McGinty’s side would give them a sizeable lead over the teams below them.

The club are hoping for a big turnout from the town for the 7pm kick-off, with youths getting in free with a paying adult.

In the top flight, Arthurlie remain threatened by relegation following their thumping loss at the hands of Auchinleck Talbot on Saturday.

The Barrhead side look certainties to be in the relegation playoffs come the end of the campaign, and even a win over Cumnock tonight at Dunterlie would see them with an uphill battle to beat the drop.

Neilston will be looking to continue their own promotion charge at home to Greenock this evening, with their strikeforce of Paul Stewart and Dylan Fletcher continuing to bang in the goals.

The Farmer’s Boys saw off Blantyre Victoria at the Brig O’Lea on Saturday and head into tonight’s clash as heavy favourites with Greenock sitting midtable.

Meanwhile, Johnstone Burgh continue to play catch up in the Central District Second Division, having at least four games in hand over the sides around them. Jamie McKim’s team face Vale of Clyde in the league’s only clash this evening, but with little to play for.
