A Johnstone woman is sharing the limelight with Gerard Butler, Judy Murray, Sir Chris Hoy and Brian Cox as part of a new TV advert.

Christina Leon auditioned and was selected to take part in the new film for the National Trust for Scotland.

It’s part of the trust’s ambitious new campaign, called For the Love of Scotland, and was aired for the first time on STV last weekend.

Christina, 32, said: “One of my work colleagues told me about a call for auditions looking to talk to people who love Scotland so I honestly leapt at the chance before I even knew what it was for.

“When I arrived, it was almost like an informal chat between friends as they asked me all about what I liked and disliked about our country.”

“I’ve recently become a member of the National Trust for Scotland so being able to highlight some of the important work that they do is a great honour.”

The campaign aims to boost member numbers by more than a third to 500,000 as well as double paid visits to one million and increase regular donors and member visits over the next five years.

As well as Buddie Gerard Butler, actor Brian Cox, Scottish football manager Alex McLeish, international rugby players Stuart Hogg and Finn Russell, TV presenter Andrea McLean and musician Evelyn Glennie share what they love about their country – as well as what brings them down – alongside a host of less well-known National Trust for Scotland supporters.

When asked about what she loved about Scotland during the video, former Johnstone High pupil Christina said, “the banter” as well as the lochs.

She added: “I’ve always enjoyed visiting them. They’re always stunning to see in person.”

She added: “I adore the people, they’re just fantastic. I was getting a train home the other day and everyone was having a big Scottish singalong together to Caledonia by John McDermott. It was one of the most patriotic things I’ve ever seen and I loved every minute of it.”

Meanwhile Gerard Butler, who hails from Ralston, hates the midges but loves “our mountains, our glens, our lochs and our burns”, and “that we still care about the things that matter”.

Conservation charity, the National Trust for Scotland, protects some of the most treasured places and spaces around the Greater Glasgow and Renfrewshire area, including Greenback Garden in Glasgow and Weaver’s Cottage in Kilbarchan.
