Cops hunt for thugs after man robbed in street

Appeal for witnesses after brutal assault in west end

- David Campbell

Detectives are hunting a pair of thugs who attacked and robbed a man in Paisley.

The 27- year- old victim was struck with a weapon during the incident in Maxwellton Street, in the town’s west end.

Police say the man was walking along the road when he was approached by two men, who attacked him before stealing his mobile phone and bank cards.

It is understood the victim was left badly shaken by the ordeal but, thankfully, did not need hospital treatment.

The incident happened at around 3.30am on Saturday.

Police described the first suspect as white, of stocky build, 5ft 11ins tall, in his late 20s and spoke with a local accent.

The second man is similar, but with a slim build.

Police are now scouring CCTV footage in a bid to trace the dangerous pair as they carry out enquiries into the incident.

Detective Inspector Scott McCallum, from Paisley CID, appealed for witnesses to the shocking attack to come forward.

He said: “A 27-year-old man was assaulted and robbed by two men as he walked along Maxwellton Street, in Paisley, in the early hours on Saturday morning.

“The suspects struck him with a weapon before stealing his mobile phone and a number of other items.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may have been approached by these two males the same evening, to get in touch.

“Thankfully, the victim did not sustain any serious injuries during the robbery but it was clearly a distressing experience.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries including reviewing CCTV, and I would appeal for help from members of the public in this investigation.”
