New airbus is a high-flyer, says Gavin

-

Gavin Newlands MP visited Glasgow Airport for the launch of EasyJet’s new lower carbon airbus.

Along with Paisley MSP George Adam and transport minister Humza Yousaf MSP, Mr Newlands heard from the airline about its plans to reduce carbon emissions.

EasyJet claims the new Airbus A320neo saves up to 15 per cent in fuel burn and C02 emissions as well as being 50 per cent less noisy on take off and landing.

The budget airline said it has reduced its carbon emissions per passenger, per kilometre by over 32 per cent, since 2000.

Mr Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said: “I’ve always had a keen interest in aviation so it was fantastic to be able to speak with the base pilot about the significant environmental and operational benefits that the new airbus will bring about.

“It’s important that the aviation industry continues to challenge itself to keep reducing their levels of both CO2 emissions, and noise pollution.

“The 15 per cent reduction in CO2 output is very much welcome, but the even bigger engineering feat is the 50 per cent reduction in noise on takeoff and landing, which represents a huge leap forward for aviation and for those residents, like me, who live near the airport or under an aircraft flight path.

“I congratulate Airbus and EasyJet for this innovation, and thank Glasgow Airport for hosting us. I look forward to being a passenger on the new quieter airbus.”
