Quarriers nominated for top award

-

a top Renfrewshire charity is up for a major award.

Quarriers, based in Bridge of Weir, has been nominated in the Pioneering Project in the scottish Charity awards 2018 for its Let’s talk campaign.

Quarriers is working with primary school children to improve mental health knowledge and awareness, with the aim of removing the taboo of speaking about mental health and helping to end stigma.

It wants to have an immediate benefit for children who are experiencing mental health problems or have a family member affected by it.

the charity is up against four other organisations including Motherwell-based learningdisabled person’s organisation EnaBLE, which is also well know for its work in Renfrewshire.

Breaking Barriers is a campaign that aims to see disabled people treated equally.

Run annually by the scottish Council for Voluntary organisations, the awards are open to any voluntary organisation, charity, community group or individual charity volunteer or staff member, and celebrate the life-changing work they do and their dedication to making scotland a better place to live.

anna Fowlie, chief executive, scottish Council for Voluntary organisations, said:“I am so looking forward to my first scottish Charity awards as chief executive of sCVo.

“We know there is fantastic work going on in our communities thanks to third sector organisations, from national charities to local volunteer groups, and the awards are a great way of celebrating and recognising those involved.“

the shortlist includes 40 individuals and organisations from across the third sector in scotland.

Members of the public can have their say by voting for their favourite entry in the People’s Choice award – by visiting www. scvo.org.uk/vote – before Friday, May 18.
