Falling debris left four people hurt, with two taken to hospital to be treated for minor head wounds. They were later allowed home.

Emergency crews raced to the busy club as staff quickly escorted partygoers on to the street.

It is understood there were seven customers in the VIP section when a small part of the suspended ceiling came in, just before closing time.

Owner of Fantoosh, Alyson Finnigan, said she is cooperating with the authorities, including Renfrewshire Council, who are investigating.

She told the Paisley Daily Express: “We are working with all the relevant authorities in relation to this incident. I’m glad that there were no serious injuries sustained and we remain in contact with those affected.

“A small section of suspended ceiling above the VIP section of the club fell in shortly before closing time.

“I would like to thank our staff and stewards who evacuated the club calmly and safely. I would also like to thank the paramedics, police and firefighters who responded so quickly and professionally.

“We are hoping to be up and running again for the weekend.”

Police Scotland confirmed a number of people had been injured as a result of the incident.

A spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a section of ceiling collapsing at Fantoosh licensed premises in New Street, Paisley at 2.20am. Four people were injured, and two were taken to hospital, and were treated for minor injuries.

A Renfrewshire Council spokeswoman said: ” We are aware of the incident and are conducting a full health and safety investigation.”
