We’re ready for the challenge Keeper is confident of top-flight success

- David Campbell

Craig Samson insists his team-mates are planning on doing more than just make up the numbers in next season’s Premier League.

The big shot-stopper committed his future to the club until the summer of 2020 after a recordbreaking season and now his future is settled he has turned his attention to the challenge ahead.

Samson believes the Paisley side have built a winning mentality that will make them a force to be reckoned with amongst the big boys of Scottish football.

He said: “We’re going up there and we will have some very, very difficult games but we believe that we can do well.

“The club is in such a place together that we believe we can achieve things in the premier league and if the fans continue to back the boys the way they have, its going to be a very difficult place to come at St Mirren.”

The 34-year-old is in confident mood ahead of next season, and says the fans have a huge part to play in the future success of the team.

“We know we have some really difficult games but teams won’t be looking forward to coming to St Mirren Park. It’s a very difficult place to come, and if we can make it the fortress that it’s become this year, then we could have a successful season,” he added.

“A lot of the younger boys at this club aren’t used to losing football matches, and that is a massive positive. They want to continue to go and win football matches.

“Next year, we can try to take that momentum on. We are under no illusions that it is a very good league but we can add to that.

“The manager has been quoted as saying that staying in the league next year would be a successful season, but it’s not ambitious. We want to go and put our stamp on the league.”
