Ross is set for Ipswich talks Boss could be on the move

- Craig Ritchie

Jack Ross’future as St Mirren manager appears uncertain after the club granted English Championship side Ipswich Town permission to speak to the PFA Manager of the Year.

The 41- year- old is a man in demand having led the Buddies to the Championship title in his first full season in charge of the Paisley outfit.

He is currently Scottish football’s hottest managerial prospect having guided St Mirren from the bottom of the Championship to winning promotion in just 18 months.

His development of youngsters Stevie Mallan, Lewis Morgan and Kyle Magennis has also seen the trio recognised at international level, while Mallan and Morgan have also earned themselves big moves.

Ross previously rebuffed the advances of Dundee 12 months ago before rejecting Barnsley in February.

However, his stock continues to rise having now caught the eye of the Tractor Boys as they seek a replacement for Mick McCarthy who left last month.

Club bosses remained tightlipped last night. However, after turning down the Barnsley role, Ross said: “We work in a unique industry where being approached or headhunted or shortlisted is done very much in the public eye.

“People will look from the outside and believe it’s a very straightforward choice – you go for the allure of something that people perceive to be a lot bigger or the allure of greater finances.

“But I don’t think it’s always just about that as there are other things to consider. This job has been good for me, I think I’ve been good for it – so it’s a good fit.”

Caretaker manager Bryan Klug is currently in charge at Ipswich but chairman Marcus Evans is ramping up his search following the completion of the Championship season last weekend.

The Portman Road side finished mid-table in the Championship, 15 points off the play-offs.

Former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood and Shrewsbury Town’s Paul Hurst are also among the favourites with the bookies.
