Sick crooks swipe charity tins from shop

Cash and collection boxes stolen

12.05.2018 Cops are hunting cruel thieves who stole charity tins during a shop breakin.

The yobs smashed a window at Steele Shoes in Gauze Street, Paisley, before making off with a small amount of cash and the collection boxes.

It is understood the raid happened between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning when the owner discovered the damage and reported it to the police.

Officers are now examining CCTV footage from the area as they look to trace the callous crooks behind the smash-andgrab incident.

Inspector Tracy Harkins appealed for any witnesses who may have informatio­n on the break-in to come forward.

She said: “We received a report of a break-in at Steele Shoes in Paisley’s Gauze Street between 5.30pm on Wednesday, May 9 and 9am on Thursday, May 10.

“Charity tins and a small amount of cash were taken during the incident.

“We are now appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who may have observed the incident to get in touch.

“Did you see anyone acting suspicious­ly in the area, or people making off from the area?

“Did you hear a window smashing? If so, we would like to hear from you.”

Meanwhile, officers are also investigat­ing a suspicious fire in Glen Street in Paisley.

Bin sheds were torched at around 6.20am on Thursday morning and police believe the blaze may have been set deliberate­ly.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service doused the flames and the police were drafted in over fears they had been set on purpose.
